NPTA launches new website

The National Pharmacy Technician Association launched their new website earlier this month.

The new design includes easier navigation to current news, and new ways to interact with the organization and even directly with Mike Johnston CPhT (CEO) on various social networking websites.

(By Jo Dee Black – Great Falls Tribune. Chester, Montana) — Keri and Justin VanCampen grew up in small Montana communities and wanted to raise their family in the same type of environment.

Thanks to programs designed to promote business in rural communities, the couple are doing just that in the Hi-Line community of Chester, population 871 according to the last Census. They’ve not only created jobs for themselves, but for five other small town Montana residents. Read more

Recently, The Oprah Show aired a special on medical mistakes, featuring actor Dennis Quaid and show regular, Dr. Oz.

A giant step to reduce the number of medication errors is to pass legislation that will require the education and certification of Pharmacy Technicians. Read more

Pharmacy tech compromise to be sought in S.C. bill

(Gina Smith – TheState.com, South Carolina)  A House bill to require two-thirds of the state’s pharmacy technicians to meet new education and training requirements has stalled.

Bill proponents say more training and education are needed to prevent prescription and medicine errors.

“In two weeks time, I went from working, folding linens in a linen store to making IVs at a pharmacy,” said Natasha Nicols, who has since become a pharmacist. She’s now president-elect of the S.C. Society of Health-System Pharmacists, which backed the bill. Read more

Pharmacy Tech staffed vending machine dispenses medication

(Burlington Free Press, Vermont) The Health Center in Plainfield recently installed an unusual “vending machine,” the first of its kind in the state.

It’s a seven-foot-tall, bullet-proof “automated dispensing unit” that holds 122 prescription medicines. A pharmacy technician accesses the medicines for individual patients using their prescriptions. Read more

South Carolina Bill to Regulate Pharmacy Technicians

A bill has been introduced into the South Carolina General Assembly to further enhance the requirements to practice as a Pharmacy Technician in the state.

PTCB Exam’s new testing features for 2009

(PTCB Press Release) Starting April 1, 2009, the PTCB Examination will be available in continuous testing format at Pearson Professional Centers nationwide. PTCB also announced that exam candidates will receive an official pass or fail result at the test center after the completion of the exam, effective immediately. Read more
